Manuscripta: A Journal for Manuscript Research

Since 1957 the Vatican Film Library has published Manuscripta, a journal devoted to research on medieval and Renaissance manuscripts. The journal features articles and book reviews on topics such as paleography, codicology, illumination, diplomatics, papyrology, epigraphy, library history, reading and literacy, manuscript cataloguing, and textual criticism. Articles may be submitted on all these topics, and generally on any aspect of manuscript studies that deals primarily with the physicality of the object.

The journal follows the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed., in most cases. Submissions should be addressed to the Editor at Manuscripta, Knights of Columbus Vatican Film Library, Pius XII Memorial Library, Saint Louis University, 3650 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108-3302. Submissions are sent for peer review by the double-blind method, in which author and reviewer are unknown to each other. Accordingly, a cover page should accompany each article providing title, author, and contact information; the article itself should omit the author’s name and any references or details that might serve to identify him/her.

Published twice annually          —          ISSN 0025-2603

Current subscriptions (EUR 80 per year) are available in both print and online formats from Brepols Publishers. Back issues (USD 8 per issue) for volumes 1 (1957) through 42 (1998) are available through our editorial offices.
